Christiania, also known as Freetown Christiania (Danish: Fristaden Christiania) is a self-proclaimed autonomous neighbourhood of about 850 residents, covering 34 hectares (85 acres) in the borough of Christianshavn in the Danish capital Copenhagen. Civic authorities in Copenhagen regard Christiania as a large commune, but the area has a unique status in that it is regulated by a special law, the Christiania Law of 1989 which transfers parts of the supervision of the area from the municipality of Copenhagen to the state.
Christiania has been a source of controversy since its creation in a squatted military area in 1971. Its cannabis trade was tolerated by authorities until 2004. Since then, measures for normalising the legal status of the community have led to conflicts, and negotiations are ongoing.

Egeskov's history dates to the 14th century. The castle structure was erected by Frands Brockenhuus in 1554.
Due to the troubles caused by the civil war known as the Count's Feud (Danish: Grevens fejde), general civil unrest, and a civil war introducing the Protestant Reformation, most Danish noblemen built their homes as fortifications. The castle is constructed on oaken piles and located in a small lake with a maximum depth of 5 meters (16 ft). Originally, the only access was by means of a drawbridge. According to legend, it took an entire forest of oak trees to build the foundation, hence the name Egeskov (“oak forest”)
The castle consists of two long buildings connected by a thick double wall, allowing defenders to abandon one house and continue fighting from the other. The double wall is over one meter thick and contains secret staircases and a well. Defenders were able to attack an enemy's flanks from the two round corner towers. Other medieval defences include artillery ports, scalding holes and arrow slits. The bricks composing the castle are of an oversized medieval type sometimes called "monks bricks". The conical towers are constructed in a series of separate panels.
The architecture includes depressed and round-arched windows, round-arched blank arcading within the gables, and a double string course between the high cellar and the ground floor. The structure contains some of the early indoor plumbing design first used in Europe with vertical shafts for waste. The thick double wall also contains a water well which is accessed from the servants kitchen in the east house. Several of the large rooms have massive parallel exposed beams with some end carving.

One of the most magnificent manor houses whose history can be traced all the way back to 1590. The 12 hectare park is open to the public.

The West Coast of Denmark is dotted by inlets, fjords, and natural harbours such as near the the community of Nymindegab .

Bagenkop Harbor Denmark

Blue fishing cutters chug in and out of the harbour with flocks of seagulls following in their wake. The cutters´ red and black pennants wave in the wind and the old fishermen sit on the benches and discuss life and not least fishing conditions.

Bagenkop, Langeland´s most southern town, is the place if you want to experience the true harbour atmosphere with the smell of tar and salt water.
This is the place to buy freshly caught fish when one of the small pound net fishermen has tied up. It is also popular for visitors to catch fish themselves. You will see this especially in springtime when the many swishing fishing rods are being flicked. Later, during the summertime it is the many white and coloured sails which contribute to a party-like holiday atmosphere in the yacht harbour which has now new facilities including a barbecue. You should not miss out on the harbour festival in the middle of July either.

Not far from the harbour in the old part of Bagenkop you will find a nearly Skagen-like atmosphere with charming old houses. Here the small gardens are more lush and less wind-blown even though this part of town has, as every good harbour town should have, its own "Storm Street".

Near Bagenkop you ought to see the bird life - or at least experience Dovns Klint and Gulstav Mose where they are plentiful. If you enjoy "heights" there are beautiful views from Bagenkop Bjerg and the old light house which stands on one of the so called "hat-shaped hills" of which there are so many in the area. These are large round-shaped hills that were created during the ice age.

Another way you can also have a view of the whole area is to take a trip to the top of Kelds Nor lighthouse which, with its height of 38 m, allows you to see all the way to Kiel.
The courageous can also have a special, historical experience if they crawl into Langeland´s only covered stone dolmen which is not so far from the town.

DENMARK, COPENHAGEN....ΚΟΠΕΓΧΑΓΗ Η ΠΡΩΤΕΥΟΥΣΑ ΤΩΝ ΘΡΥΛΩΝ

Μέχρι πριν από μια δεκαετία το λιμάνι των εμπόρων, όπως σημαίνει το όνομα της Κοπεγχάγης, ήταν μια ήσυχη πόλη χτισμένη πάνω σε δυο νησιά στην άκρη της Βαλτικής. Σήμερα η πρωτεύουσα της Δανίας έχει μεταμορφωθεί σε θερμόμετρο του στιλ για όλη την Ευρώπη, όπου διακοσμητές, στιλίστες και σχεδιαστές δίνουν ραντεβού για να χαράξουν τις τάσεις του αύριο σε ντιζάιν, μόδα, αρχιτεκτονική.
Η γνωριμία με τη μητρόπολη του τρίτου μιλένιουμ ξεκινά από το εντυπωσιακό αεροδρόμιο, αεροδυναμικό κτίριο σε σχήμα ατράκτου Κόνκορντ, από ατσάλι και γυαλί. Πιο πέρα, η κρεμαστή γέφυρα που συνδέει από το 2000 τη Δανία με την απέναντι όχθη της Σουηδίας είναι το έμβλημα μιας πόλης με το βλέμμα στραμμένο στο μέλλον.

Αυτή η πόλη μοιάζει να κατέχει το μυστικό πώς να δένει αριστοτεχνικά το πιο αβάν γκαρντ με το παραδοσιακό. Κτίρια πρωτοποριακού ντιζάιν σαν το μουσείο Arken της σύγχρονης τέχνης, στα νότια της Κοπεγχάγης, αιχμαλωτίζουν στις διαφάνειές τους το χλομό ήλιο της Βαλτικής και διεκδικούν μια θέση στο δανέζικο ορίζοντα μαζί με τα γαλαζοπράσινα καμπαναριά-πύργους αλλοτινών καιρών, διάσπαρτα παντού στην πόλη. Στο πολυσύχναστο κανάλι Nyhavn, απαραίτητο meeting point για Δανούς και τουρίστες, τα σπιτάκια με τις ροζ, κίτρινες και θαλασσιές προσόψεις μοιάζουν βγαλμένα από τα παραμύθια που ο Άντερσεν εμπνεύστηκε και έγραψε εδώ.

Το παλιό λιμάνι της Κοπεγχάγης διατηρεί αναλλοίωτη τη γοητεία του, αλλά το κέντρο βάρους του στιλ μετατοπίζεται στην παλιά στρατιωτική ζώνη του Holmen. Αρχιτέκτονες και σχεδιαστές αναλαμβάνουν το στοίχημα να μετατρέψουν τα μουντά, γκρίζα κτίρια σε trendy spots.Αν σας αρέσει να βλέπετε τα διαφορετικά στυλ αρχιτεκτονικής όταν βρίσκεστε σε μια ξένη χώρα, τότε μάλλον θα βρείτε την Κοπεγχάγη αρκετά ενδιαφέρουσα. Κάτι που ξεχωρίζει την Κοπεγχάγη από πολλές άλλες δυτικές πόλεις είναι το γεγονός ότι δεν υπάρχουν ουρανοξύστες. Θα βρείτε φυσικά ψηλά κτίρια εδώ και εκεί, αλλά όχι τόσα όσα ίσως είσαστε συνηθισμένοι να βλέπετε. Μόνο αυτό κάνει την Κοπεγχάγη αρκετά ξεχωριστή.

Πολύ χαριτωμένες είναι και οι διάφορες παλαιές συνοικίες, όπως το κέντρο της πόλης με τα πολλά σχετικά στενά και στραβά δρομάκια, το Frederiksstaden με τα κτίρια σε στυλ ροκοκό και τους φαρδείς και ίσιους δρόμους καθώς και η παλαιά ναυτική συνοικία του Nyboder. Δείτε τα σε αντιπαράθεση με τη μοντέρνα αρχιτεκτονική κυρίως κατά μήκος της προκυμαίας.

Το πρόγραμμα "Copenhagen X", το οποίο θα τρέχει μέχρι το 2012, έχει σκοπό να κάνει γνωστή τη μοντέρνα αρχιτεκτονική της Κοπεγχάγης. Για το σκοπό αυτό έχει εκδοθεί ένας οδηγός για τη μοντέρνα αρχιτεκτονική της Κοπεγχάγης, ο οποίος και πωλείται σε διάφορα βιβλιοπωλεία της πόλης.Η Δανία είναι η χώρα με την παλαιότερη μοναρχία. Για το λόγο αυτό στη χώρα υπάρχουν πολλά παλάτια και κάστρα που χτίστηκαν από και για τους βασιλείς της Δανίας, σε κάποιες περιπτώσεις για να τους δοξάσουν και σε άλλες απλά για λόγους στέγασης. Κάποια κάστρα, σαν το κάστρο Κρόνμποργκ (Kronborg) στο Έλσινορ (Helsingør), είχαν και στρατιωτικές λειτουργίες, αλλά η πλειοψηφία ήταν απλά ...σπίτια!Επειδή η Δανία είναι μικρή χώρα σε σχέση με τις υπόλοιπες χώρες της Ευρώπης, τα κάστρα εδώ είναι επίσης μικρότερα σε μέγεθος σε σχέση με τα κάστρα για παράδειγμα στο Λονδίνο και το Παρίσι. Ωστόσο αυτό δε σημαίνει ότι τα κάστρα και παλάτια στην Κοπεγχάγη και τα περίχωρα δεν αξίζουν μια επίσκεψη - μερικά από αυτά δεν θα μπορέσετε να τα αποφύγετε ούτως ή άλλως αν σκοπεύετε να κάνετε μια βόλτα στην πόλη.

ΨΩΝΙΑ, ΦΑΓΗΤΟ, ΔΙΑΣΚΕΔΑΣΗ:

Ψωνίζοντας στην Κοπεγχάγη
Όσο αφορά τα εμπορικά κέντρα, η Κοπεγχάγη έχει μια παράδοση αρκετών δεκαετιών που ανανεώθηκε τα τελευταία χρόνια με μεγαλύτερα, πιο μοντέρνα και πιο κεντρικά εμπορικά κέντρα.
Το νεότερο και μεγαλύτερο εμπορικό κέντρο είναι το Field's, το μεγαλύτερο εμπορικό κέντρο στη Σκανδιναβία. Το Field's βρίσκεται δίπλα στο σταθμό του μετρό Ørestad και έτσι είναι εύκολο να πάτε εκεί (τουλάχιστον όταν το μετρό δουλεύει...). Εκτός από τη συνηθισμένη πληθώρα μαγαζιών ρούχων και ηλεκτρικών συσκευών, στο Field's θα βρείτε επίσης το πρώτο υποκατάστημα του βρετανικού Debenham's. Επίσης, για πρώτη φορά δε χρειάζεται κανείς αυτοκίνητο για να επισκεφτεί το δανέζικο σουπερμάρκετ Bilka. Ο τελευταίος όροφος έχει ένα μεγάλο αριθμό εστιατορίων και γυμναστήριο.
Ένα άλλο σχετικά καινούργιο εμπορικό κέντρο στην Κοπεγχάγη είναι το Fisketorvet, δίπλα στον σταθμό του τρένου Dybbolsbro (ο πρώτος σταθμός μετά τον κεντρικό σταθμό της Κοπεγχάγης). Εδώ δε θα βρείτε γυμναστήριο αλλά και ένα μεγάλο πολυκινηματογράφο. Κατά τα άλλα το Fisketorvet μοιάζει με το Field's και έτσι μάλλον δε χρειάζεται να επισκεφτείτε και τα δύο.
