Sunset in Limeni, Mani, Peloponnese Greece

Sunset in Limeni, Mani, originally uploaded by Scott Norsworthy.

This place was certainly a highlight of the 2009 Summer Course in Greece. Halfway through our month-long journey, we paused for three days at the southernmost peninsula of the Peloponnese, a rugged landscape known in Greek mythology as one of the gates to the underworld.

Echoing the vernacular architecture of the Maniot towers that still famously dot the coastal terrain, we stayed at a wonderful hotel where the rooms were actually individual towers that create a sort of village traversed by winding roads and steep stairs.
